Pink kitchen towel

36hkThis year we have a very late spring, its stil snowing on top of the mountains and I’m doing all I can to get a summer-feeling. I’ve been making a summer set for my kitchen with a pair of potholders, a pink kitchen towel and a dishcloth.

Do you remember my spring green potholders? I think my pink towel goes very well with the potholders. I even made a pink heart to pick up the color from the towel 🙂 In fact I liked the pink color so much I made two towels and gave one of them to my mother for mothers day.

 Tulip pattern

I chose this pattern because it looks a bit like c2c (corner to corner), but I crocheted the towel in rows. Later I will blog about a kitchen cloth made from the c2c-technique, and I think it goes nicely with my towel. I’m not sure, but I think the pattern is called tulip pattern.

Yarn and hook

  • Gjestal, Bomull Sport, Mercerisert, pink number 323. You can wash the towel in the machine on 60 °C
  • Hook 4 mm

Pattern

If you wish to make a wider towel, make sure that the numbers of stitches are dividable with 4. You must also add 5 ekstra chain stitches.

Abbreviation

  • ch = chain stitches
  • dc = double crochet
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stithes

Klick on the pictures for big version.

  1. Chain 53
  2. Crochet 3 dc in the fifth st from your hook.
  3. Skip 3 st, 1 sc in next st
  1. Ch 3
  2. Crochet 3 dc in same st as the sc
  3. Skip 3 st, 1 sc in next st
  • Repeat from 1. to 3. till end of row.
  1. Crochet 4 ch st and turn your work.
  2. Crochet 3 dc in the first of the four ch st.
  3. Crochet 1 sc round the first loop of ch st – see picture.
  1. 3 ch st.34hk
  2. 3 sc around the same ch stitches as you put the sc.
  3. 1 sc in next loop of ch st.
  • Repeat from 1 – 3 til end of row. Turn like you did after first row.

Make the towel as long as your wish. You can also make a picot edging and a heart.

Edging on top

On top of the towel the edge is uneven because of the tulip pattern. I made chain stitches to make an even edge, this makes it easy to make the picot edging.

  1. Crochet 4 ch st.
  2. 1 sc in the loop of ch st
  3. 4 ch st
  4. 1 sc in the loop of ch st – repeat form 1 – 2 until you reaches the seventh loop of ch st.
  5. In the seventh loop of ch st you make 1 sc and then 12 ch st and 1 sc in the same loop of ch st.
  • Repeat from 1 – 2 til end of row.

Picot edging

  1. Crochet 3 ch st
  2. 1 sl st in the first of the three ch st.
  3. Make 1 sc in the same st as the three dc that makes the tulip. Make 3 ch st.
  4. 1 sl st in the first of the three ch st.
  5. 1 sc in the same st as the three dc that makes the tulip.
  • Repeat from 1 – 5 around the towel. In the loop you make 14 sc.

Heart

I think that adding a heart gives the towel a cute touch, follow the link and you’ll find an American video explaining how to make a heart. Good luck!
